This is an interesting day – had a hard time falling asleep last night, because we kept hearing tree branches and limbs cracking and falling around our house, and in the neighbors’ yards. We kept looking outside to see what kind of damage there was or might be… Our front yard, side yard, and back yard all look like a tornado came through!! Except there is a thick coating of ice on everything
We have not had electricity since about 8 or 8:30 last night (right now as I am writing this, it is around 10 a.m.) Our central heat is electric, so the temperature in the house is dropping some – it is hovering around 60 right now, so we can layer clothing and keep warm. Can’t imagine going through two or three days of this, let alone a week or two… Last night’s freezing rain and ice storm was worse than the last one we had in December; and they say that this was only the first of three coming through this weekend… Oh my!!! Just saw the mail truck go by!! It really IS true…
I am typing this up on my laptop computer, and thankfully I had charged it up last time I used it – but I only have a certain amount of time… (or battery charge)
I definitely kept talking to my Heavenly Father last night – I believe His angels must be holding some of the trees back from falling on our house… There are branches down on the chain link fences and gates… on the back shed… on the garage; there is some on part of our house roof, because I can see part of it hanging down. Don’t dare go outside; afraid more trees may fall while I am out in it – don’t feel like getting clunked on the head by one of those! I imagine I would see my brother immediately (he died three months ago…)
Thankfully our cook stove is gas; has electric ignition, but it will also work with a lighter (NOT a cigarette lighter!) – so we had some hot oatmeal for breakfast – by candlelight! Good brown sugar, raisins, etc…
Wonder if they will cancel our church services in the morning – probably! Also, wonder about work on Monday? Don’t see any reason for having the library open – there shouldn’t be any crazy enough to get out in this stuff, to come check email on the computers there – that is about all there has been there lately… and we have been keeping it open for that! There was a mini-semester this past week, but don’t think many students came in during the week for that… (picking up books they needed to read)
George bought some batteries yesterday afternoon, so we have been listening to the radio this morning; KWFC is off the air (at least, it was earlier this morning), but we listened to KTTS for a little while, and have been listening to KTXR this morning, as we do every Saturday morning – Wayne Glenn, the old record collector – “Remember When?” We even have a small portable TV, which takes batteries (George happened to get enough batteries for the radio AND the TV), so we got to watch some last night also…
